Cheetah Mobile Acquires Global News Aggregation App 'News Republic'
Sina Tech, 8/02/16
Chinese mobile internet company Cheetah Mobile (NYSE: CMCM), a subsidiary of Kingsoft (3888.HK), has announced it will acquire global news aggregation app News Republic for USD 57 mln.
After the transaction is complete, the two parties will create a public account function and integrate user-generated content makers and online celebrities to gain more exposure.
Cheetah Mobile CEO Fu Sheng said the acquisition fits with the company's mobile content production strategy, in order to provide its global users with access to richer content.
Cheetah Mobile USA also launched an interactive video app "Live.me," which supports gift-giving, a bullet-screen interface, as well as the use of gifs and dynamic stickers.
Editor's Note: Cheetah Mobile is working quietly to develop multi-functional mobile platforms for overseas markets that could function similarly to the way WeChat functions in the China market.
