MIIT: China's 4G Subscriber Base Surpasses 600 Mln in June

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its June 2016 telecom industry statistics. Figures for the first six months of the year were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues for January-June 2016 were RMB 722.52 bln (USD 109.27 bln), up 5.3% YoY, of which core services revenue was RMB 611.28 bln (USD 92.45 bln), up 5.6% YoY. January-June 2016 capital expenditure was RMB 146.30 bln (USD 22.13 bln), up 1.8% YoY.
Total telephone subscribers increased 2.16 mln in June to 1.519 bln. In June, the number of mobile subscribers increased by 3.41 mln to 1.30 bln, while fixed-line subscribers decreased by 1.25 mln to 219.47 mln. Among the mobile subscribers, 3G subscribers saw a drop of 13.17 mln in June, decreasing the total 3G user base to 224.81 mln, and 4G subscribers increased by 28.44 mln to reach a total 4G user base of 613.02 mln.
A total of 329.27 bln SMS messages were sent in the January-June period, down 8.8% YoY.
In terms of internet access, China's number of broadband registered accounts increased by 4.35 mln in June, raising the total to 278.10 mln, of which 8M+ accounts comprised 82.4% of all registered broadband accounts. FTTH subscribers grew by 8.28 mln to 190.18 mln.
Mobile internet subscribers saw a net increase of 4.82 mln in June, bringing the total to 1.033 bln.
