CEO: Sogou's 2015 Revenue to Reach USD 600 Mln
DoNews, 1/05/16
Wang Xiaochuan, CEO of Chinese internet firm Sohu's (Nasdaq: SOHU) online search subsidiary Sogou, revealed yesterday in an internal 2016 New Year's message to staff that Sogou's revenue for 2015 is expected to reach USD 600 mln, up over 50% YoY. Annual profits are expected to exceed USD 100 mln, an increase of more than 200% YoY.
PC users of Sogou Keyboard, the company's Chinese character input method editor (IME), now exceed PC users of partner Tencent's (0700.HK) QQ instant messaging platform, and mobile monthly active users of Sogou Keyboard have reached 240 mln. Sogou Search has also worked to differentiate itself, adding search functions for content from official accounts on Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app (added in mid-2014), and for content from partner firm Zhizhe Tianxia Technology's online Q&A community Zhihu.com (added in late 2015).
In 2016, Sougou plans to focus on social search, input method services, big data, social media feeds, and smart hardware.
Editor's Note: A Sogou PR representative confirmed to Marbridge that Wang Xiaochuan had issued an internal 2016 New Year's message, but noted that the company had not released it to the media.
