Rumor: China to Issue Online Car Hire Service Regulations
DoNews, 9/10/15
China's Ministry of Transport and other relevant state agencies may release new rules, the "Temporary Management Methods for Online Vehicle Reservation Operators," governing the mobile car hire industry as early as next week, according to an industry source. The new regulations will reportedly require China's mobile car hire platform operators to obtain a road transportation business operator's license, and to have their drivers pass a test and obtain a limousine driver's license.
The Methods would also require car hire platforms to register their vehicles as cars for hire, change their status to "commercial vehicle," and limit their operation to a period of eight years from their taxi registration date. The fee standard for vehicles reserved online would also be required to be at least 50% higher than the standard for regular taxis.
Xiaoju Kuaizhi Inc ("Didi Kuaidi"), operator of Chinese mobile taxi booking and car hire apps Didi Chuxing (formerly Didi Dache) and Kuaidi Dache, has not commented on this news.
