JD.com to Invest RMB 2 Bln in Dongguan Operations Center

Beijing-based B2C e-commerce platform JD.com (Nasdaq: JD) has signed a letter of intent with the government of Mayong township to construct a RMB 2 bln e-commerce operations and logistics center in the region. Mayong lies within the prefecture-level city of Dongguan in China's southeastern Guangdong province.
JD.com says that Dongguan will become the company's business support headquarters for southern China, handling 50% of all business in the region. Construction will commence in 2017, with gross merchandise volume (GMV) through the center projected to reach RMB 35 bln. JD.com expects small to medium sized e-commerce service suppliers to establish themselves in the surrounding area following the construction of the new center.
