Chinese microblogging platform Weibo (Nasdaq: WB), internet firm Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU), and mobile browser developer UCWeb have jointly announced the launch of an independent blogger platform. The new platform is intended for use by independent news bloggers in China.
Under the agreement, Weibo will take responsibility for finding advertisers whose products and services are relevant to the content of different bloggers on the site, and will launch a paid subscription service at the end of the month. Qihoo 360 will provide content recommendations via links to Weibo's independent blogging platform from its online portal. UCWeb will open a channel linking to the platform on its UC Browser news and information center, and will recommend independent blogger articles to its browser users. Together, the three companies will build user profiles in order to recommend individualized articles and authors to users.
