WeChat Accounts for 10% of JD.com Book Sales

Shi Tao, VP at Beijing-based B2C e-commerce platform JD.com (Nasdaq: JD) and GM of the company's books, audio, and video department, has announced that JD.com's online book sales have soared since joining Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app on June 1, with sales through WeChat accounting for 10% of total book sales.
Shi also revealed that, in the first half of 2014, JD.com surpassed Amazon to become the second largest online B2C book retailer in China, accounting for approximately 28% of the market, citing third-party statistics. Only Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG) has a higher online book sales market share than JD.com, with 48%.
JD.com sold approximately 10 mln books during a promotional period between June 1 and June 19.
There are currently more than 600 third-party book retailers offering more than 4 mln different books on JD.com.
