A total of 35.09 mln smartphones were shipped in China during the month, down 0.7% YoY. 82.8% of smartphones shipped run on Android OS.
A total of 26.22 mln domestic brand handsets shipped in January, a decrease of 28.1% YoY, accounting for 65.8% of total handset shipments. Additionally, 162 new smartphone models were released in January, a decrease of 13.4% YoY.
Editor's Note: CATR's statistics cover domestically produced, domestically shipped handsets from both Chinese and foreign brands, but do not include imported handsets or exports of domestically produced units. Only handsets shipped through official channels are included, meaning grey market or "shanzhai" handsets are not covered in CATR's figures. "Shipped" means only that the manufacturer shipped the handset to a wholesaler or retailer, where it may or may not have been sold to a consumer during the month under discussion.
