WeChat-Customized "Wo" SIM Users Approach 1 Mln

Sales of the "Weixin Wo" WeChat-customized SIM card, jointly released on August 8 by China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) Guangdong subsidiary and Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application, have reached nearly 1 mln, according to the two companies.
Guangdong Unicom and WeChat have also announced upgraded user features for Weixin Wo SIM card users, including increased maximum group chat membership (from 60 to 150), additional free custom emoticons, and new connectivity between the Guangdong Unicom WeChat public account and China Unicom's VIP Alliance coupon platform.
Weixin Wo SIM card users can access special promotional discounts through the VIP Alliance platform, including merchant coupons and event discounts. In addition, beginning September 1, new Weixin Wo SIM card users who pre-pay RMB 120 to their mobile accounts will receive a special full-year WeChat-dedicated mobile data package, while previous Weixin Wo SIM card users are able to pre-pay RMB 60 to receive a special half-year WeChat-dedicated mobile data package.
