A spokesperson for Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning's (002024.SZ) e-commerce platform Suning.com announced at an industry conference yesterday that the site will complete development of an electronic receipt system for customers in Nanjing in July. Beginning in August, Suning.com and the e-commerce sites of Hisap and Haoxiang Shopping will begin year-long electronic e-commerce receipt trials in Nanjing, with coverage expanding nationwide at the end of the trial period.
According to Qi Wenping, head of Suning's Cloud Business Group, the new electronic receipt system will both "protect consumer rights and benefits, as well as allow for quick and convenient online search [of receipts]." Suning.com will store customer receipt information in an online database, allowing for easy look up when customers need to return goods or have maintenance done. The database will also be made accessible to China's State Administration of Taxation.
