China Mobile to Release International VoIP Product
Sina Tech, 5/31/13
A spokesperson for China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) international arm has announced that the company will release a self-developed VoIP mobile client in June, Jego. The Jego mobile app will provide free VoIP, SMS, voice message, MMS and other services, and will target an international user base. The company plans to establish 27 points of presence (POP) worldwide to support international Jego calling.
Jego users can make unlimited calls to Mainland China or Hong Kong for USD 15.99 and USD 11.79 per-month, respectively, with calling to other areas available at an additional USD 9 per-month.
Jego will at first be only available for registration by non-Chinese phone numbers, and provides VoIP services to a number of countries. Jego users will soon be able to make calls to South East Asian phone numbers, and eventually phone numbers in Europe, as a part of the service's international expansion.
The official iOS and Android versions of Jego will be released in June.
