Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) signed a strategic partnership agreement with Beijing-based B2C e-commerce platform Jingdong on May 22 under which the two companies will work together to develop China's 3C services market. Under the latest agreement, Lenovo and Jingdong will introduce remote services, software services for mobile handsets, peripheral configuration and installation services, and "hassle-free" services for new devices.
With remote services, customers will be able to get help for computer issues without having to leave their homes, as well as interoperability help for their PCs, mobile phones, and tablet devices. Software services for mobile handsets include handset security, backup, synchronization, configuration, app installation, and device and router connection configuration. Jingdong and Lenovo will also offer peripheral configuration and setup services for routers, data cards, printers, and other peripherals. "Hassle-free Setup" services for new devices offer in-home setup, configuration, coaching, and common app installation for new devices. The services will support devices from all brands, and will also cover warranty extension and accidental damage services for Lenovo devices.
Jingdong's platform currently receives an average of more than 200 mln visits per day, according to Jingdong VP and CMO Lan Ye. The site receives more than 1 mln orders per day on average, with more than 5 mln computer sales per year and annual turnover of more than RMB 20 bln.
