Baidu Rolls Out Anti-virus Software
Zol.com.cn, 2/27/13
Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has released a new anti-virus product, "Baidu Anti-virus 2013." The product is hosted on an English-language-only website (sd.baidu.com) which promises it will be "permanently free." Several links at the bottom of the Baidu Anti-virus page link to Thai language sites and BBS forums. Baidu has previously launched a "Baidu PC Faster" optimization and security product for the Thai market.
The newly released "Baidu Anti-virus 2013" contains three primary anti-virus engines, Baidu's native anti-virus engine, a cloud updated anti-virus engine, and the "Avira" anti-virus engine, which is licensed from German security software company Avira. The triple engine anti-virus solution uses Baidu's native and cloud anti-virus engines to actively monitor for viruses, and utilizes the Avira engine in combination with the other two engines to conduct full system scans.
The Baidu Anti-virus 2013 software package is relatively lightweight at 11M.
