Baidu Launches Group Buy Business

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) quietly launched a new group buy site (http://t.baidu.com) recently. The site currently offers customers in the Beijing area group buy deals in the categories of Food & Beverages and Dining, Beauty, Leisure and Entertainment, Lifestyle Services, and Hotels and Travel. The emphasis appears to be on the Food & Beverages and Dining and Lifestyle Services categories at present, and the site currently has offerings from fewer than ten businesses.

Payment for group buy deals is currently handled through online banking systems. Baidu has not yet developed partnerships with third-party payment platforms, and has not connected its own third-party payment tool, Baifubao, to the service. According to a source inside Baidu, the new group buy site falls under the purview of the company's LBS division.
