Alibaba Group Reorganizes into 25 Business Units

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group announced today that it will adjust the structure and organization of its existing businesses. Alibaba will establish 25 business units, each headed up by a president or general manager who will oversee the growth of the business in question. The BUs will be responsible for integrating and expanding services of similar categories within the Alibaba Group, breaking down barriers between subsidiary companies and business groups and effecting top-down unity within the Alibaba commercial ecosystem.
There will be corresponding changes to policy and implementation systems for Alibaba Group's existing businesses following the restructuring, with a new system containing a strategy and policy committee overseen by the group's board of directors and a strategy management and implementation committee overseen by the CEO. Leo Jiang, Daniel Zhang, Zhang Yu, Eddie Wu, Zhang Jianfeng, Jonathan Lu, Wang Jian, Ye Peng, and Sophie Wu will represent the Alibaba Group on the strategy management and implementation committee, overseeing the BUs related to their businesses.
Alibaba Group said that its next step will be to release a list of the presidents and general managers of the 25 new business units.
Details on responsibility for oversight of the new business units are as follows:
1) Leo Jiang: Shared Services Division; Merchant Services Division; Alimama Division (display ads, P4P, taokelianmeng.com); eTao and Search Division.
2) Daniel Zhang: TMall Division; Distribution Division (waptw.com); Liang Wuxian (formerly Wuming Liangpin) Division, Flight and Travel Division.
3) Zhang Yu: Category Operations Division, Digital Services Division, Integrated Services Division, Consumer Web Portal Division, Interactive Services Division.
4) Eddie Wu: Wireless Division; Alitalk and Client Division; Music Division.
5) Zhang Jianfeng: Taobao Juhuasuan Division; Taobao Local Life Division.
6) Jonathan Lu: Data Platform Division; News Platform Division; Cloud Division.
7) Wang Jian: Aliyun Division.
8) Ye Peng: B2B China Business Unit (CBU).
9) Sophie Wu: B2B International Division; B2C International Division.
