Suning Flagship Stores to Carry General Merchandise
Netease Tech, 9/03/12
Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning Appliance (002024.SZ) today announced that its four key flagship stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Nanjing will be the first retail locations to be upgraded to "Suning Expo Super Stores." Suning plans to upgrade 20 stores this year and 400 within three years.
The "Super Stores" carry not only consumer electronics and household appliances but also general merchandise and everyday items, and will adopt a customer experience-based sales approach rather than one focused on total number of completed sales.
The move is considered to be the realization of Suning chairman Zhang Jindong's previous announcement during the National People's Congress "two sessions" in March 2012 that Suning would drop the term "Appliance" from its corporate name and expand its product offerings.
