India to Restrict Chinese Telecom Equipment Imports

CCID, 8/29/12

India's Department of Telecommunications has proposed that partnerships with Chinese telecom equipment providers be limited to manufacturing, and that sensitive areas such as infrastructure, broadband networks, satellite, secure encryption, monitoring technology, mobile applications, and cloud computing be sourced from "uncontroversial nations" such as the United States, Japan, and Korea. India would continue to allow imports of Chinese-made handsets and computer hardware, but Chinese firms would not be allowed to sell products for India's future 3G wireless broadband network deployment.
