China's TD-LTE Trials Enter Phase II
Sina Tech, 2/20/12
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently announced that China's TD-LTE testing has entered a second phase of trials. Various manufacturers are testing equipment on MIIT's MTNet simulation mobile network and in outdoor trials in Beijing's Huairou and Shunyi districts. Vendors whose equipment passes the test can participate in trials in designated cities nationwide. Ericsson has already passed testing to provide system equipment, while chipsets from telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) and TD-SCDMA chip maker Leadcore Technology have qualified to participate in national TD-LTE Phase II trials. Phase II trials are primarily focused on development testing of multi-mode terminals including TD-SCDMA, with particular emphasis on testing the coordinated operation of multi-mode terminals across multiple networks.
In early 2011, MIIT named Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Xiamen as the first six trial cities for Phase I TD-LTE trials. With the completion of Phase I, over 850 base stations have been deployed.
