Taobao Rewards Merchants for Attracting Mobile Customers

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group has launched a new merchant reward program, "Caisheng Jihua," compensating merchants a total RMB 300 mln for attracting customers to the mobile version of Alibaba's Taobao e-commerce platform. Under the terms of the reward plan, Taobao merchants who are able to convert a non-mobile Taobao user to make purchases through the Taobao mobile app will receive RMB 10 per transaction, with customers also eligible to receive rewards.
Taobao merchants can use integrated services such as Alibaba's instant messaging platform Alitalk and mobile operations client Qianniu to find non-mobile Taobao users. Once these non-mobile users make inquiries, Taobao merchants may persuade them to make purchases on Taobao's mobile client.
