China May Allocate 1.4GHz Spectrum for TD-LTE

Caixin.com, 11/25/12

At the November 23 TD-LTE Trial Technology Seminar, Yan Runtian, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Radio Administration Bureau, said that the Radio Administration Bureau is researching the possibility of designating the 1427-1525 MHz band of the 1.4 GHz spectrum for TD-LTE systems.

The MIIT had previously approved the 2500 MHz - 2690 MHz band for TD-LTE, bringing the total bandwidth allocated for TD-LTE to 345 MHz, with a total of 342 MHz for FDD systems.

Yan also said that the MIIT's Radio Administration Bureau has already settled on plans to allocate 455 MHz of bandwidth from the 5150-5250 MHz, 5250-5350 Mhz, and 5470-5725 MHz bands for wireless local area use in order to support the use and development of WLAN technology, adding that the MIIT will release its WLAN spectrum plans at the appropriate time. The Radio Administration Bureau is also actively working to promote the use of the 450-470 MHz spectrum for public mobile communications research.
