Ebrun.com, 2/10/12
At a recent 2012 work planning and deployment meeting, Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning (002024.SZ) announced that it had chosen its online e-commerce platform, Suning Yigou, as a key point of growth for 2012. Suning predicts that sales through Suning Yigou will increase four- to fivefold in 2012.
Suning Yigou will greatly expand its product offerings beyond traditional home appliances and 3C goods to add dedicated sections for sporting goods, apparel, home furnishings, and baby-care products. The site will also add books, music, and video products, as well as newspapers, magazines, and e-books with online recommendations of new books. Other products available will include non-tangibles such as hotel and airplane bookings, lottery tickets, phone recharge services, utility bill payment, game point recharge services, event and venue tickets, and investment and financial management products.
Suning has already transferred some managers from its physical store procurement team to Suning Yigou, expanding the site's operations team to 3,000 people at present. Construction will begin this year on independent headquarters for Yigou.
Suning also plans to open more than 400 new offline stores in 2012, and will continue with efforts to build out its logistics bases. Suning plans to select locations for logistics bases in 60 cities around China this year, and to begin construction on seven new bases. The company predicts that it will be able to begin using eight new logistics bases in 2012.
