MIIT Allocates Spectrum for TD-LTE
CCTIME, 11/01/10
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently allocated the 2570 MHz to 2620 MHz frequency band for TD-LTE. MIIT stated that from today forward, all wireless telecommunications management agencies must stop allocating frequencies and approving new transmitters in the 2500 MHz to 2690 MHz spectrum range, as this frequency range can no longer be used. MIIT, however, has yet to release a ruling regarding the 700 MHz channel in the 698 MHz to 862 MHz band.
China has now allocated more spectrum to TDD than other country, according to industry experts. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) currently operates TD-SCDMA on the 2010 MHz to 2025 MHz band, and has also been allocated spectrum in the 1880 MHz to 1920 MHz range, but this continues to receive interference from existing PHS services.
Editor's Note: Editor's Note: It was rumored that after the transition from analog to digital TV in 2015, the 700MHz band of spectrum, currently used for analog radio and television, will be used for China Mobile’s TD-LTE network.
