China Mobile, Xinhua Search Engine Due Next Year
Sina Tech, 9/16/10
China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has begun to expand its mobile data business in the face of slowing market growth, according to overseas media, including launching an online search engine next year to compete with Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU).
Chairman Wang Jianzhou told Bloomberg News that China Mobile and Xinhua News Agency will establish a joint venture that will begin providing online and mobile search services next year. Wang added that users will be able to use the search engine via PC or handsets, but China Mobile cannot exclude Baidu from its mobile network.
