Sina Ready to Replace Google with Self-Developed Search Engine
Sohu IT, 8/05/10
Charles Chao, CEO of Chinese internet portal and wireless value-added service (WVAS) provider Sina (Nasdaq: SINA), announced in yesterday's Q2 2010 earnings call that Sina is prepared to substitute its own search engine for Google and can make the switch at any time.
Chao also disclosed that Sina Microblogs' current goal is to continue accumulating users so as to eventually leverage economies of scale. Sina's in-house search development team is working on microblog search, and the search function on the platform allows users to search by username, content or topic.
Sina regularly makes adjustments to its advertising rates twice a year, in Q2 2010 and Q4 2010. Sina is currently reviewing its Q4 2010 ad rate pricing for all manner of ads, and will increase pricing for some ad spots and overall ad rates will rise.
Sina expects the automobile, telecommunications services, financial services, IT and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors to drive advertising growth in H2 2010.
