Rumor: Securities Firms Ban Qihoo Apps Due to Privacy Concerns

Donews, 8/29/12

Four major mainland China securities firms - GF Securities, Sealand Securities, Guosen Securities, and Haitong Securities - have issued internal memos ordering all employees to cease using and immediately uninstall software from Chinese Internet services and security software provider Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU).

In its internal memo, Guosen stated that Qihoo 360's 360 Safe Guard and 360 Safe Browser apps have major security flaws, stating that Qihoo 360 software can upload user history, cookies, and temporary files to external servers, which other parties can find and retrieve using Qihoo 360's search engine.

Editor's Note: In an August 29 posting on its official Sina Weibo microblog page, GF Securities denied that its technology department or any other part of the company had issued any notices concerning Qihoo 360 software, dismissing the above-mentioned rumor as false.
